APN-ANDROIDINTERNET

A few days ago when I was happily on holidays I noticed that the 3G connection on my device had stopped working. As good average user, the first thing I did was try to shut down my Samsung Galaxy S3 and restarting it, but this was not enough.

Then call the operator and asked them to solve the problem, for which I had to create and configure a new APN on my device, and this is what we will see in this tutorial that I hope will save the need to investigate the options and having to call the operator.

What is an APN?

For its acronym in English APN refers to the abbreviation for Access Point Name. This is the access point through which our device will connect to the Internet via our carrier networks.

Usually, when we buy a device through an operator, this usually includes the APN settings in the factory firmware itself, but if you’re here you’ve probably changed or installed a new ROM firmware manually, processes that removes APN data.

Create a new APN

Before you start you have to consider the location of the options to create or modify an APN may vary by device model you have, or rather the manufacturer and its user interface.

In this tutorial, I used a Samsung Galaxy S3 with Cyanogenmod 10.1, so that the user interface is the one that comes natively on Android, though your options may vary.

Configuring APN in Android Native

In devices with native Android interface, the path to the APN settings are as follows:

Settings > Data Usage More … > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names > (+)

Configure APN on Samsung

On devices that have Samsung Touchwiz interface, the path to APN configurations is:

Samsung: Settings-> Wireless-> Mobile Networks-> APN (Access Point Names).

Note: if you have a Sony device, HTC or another brand please share the path to the APN settings so we completed the tutorial.

Setting a new APN

After clicking the (+) will enter the Access Point Name Edit screen from which we can enter new APN data. Usually, you only need to enter the data of Name, APN, Username and Password, although this will depend on your carrier.

In order not having to call your carrier, we made a list of APN Scenabeta of Spain. If you are in another country or have other APN please share them in the comments section.

After entering all of the APN data, you have to turn the device off and then back on.
