Google have just updated its Currents application to version 2.0, which features a completely revamped interface and great new features.

Google Currents 2.0 has a new interface more similar to other Google apps like YouTube and Google+ that facilitates the reading of news. Moreover, it has incorporated a sidebar for quick access to the editions to keep handy our favorite publications ordered by category, allowing you to quickly navigate between them by sliding your finger to see the next / previous publication.

Similar to Google Reader, now we can highlight a publication that we have enjoyed starring it to read later, and also we find the Breaking News or news highlights to show the most popular publications according to Google News.

Ultimately, the full list of new features is as follows:

  • Editing Sidebar: quick access to your issues in categories like business, sports, etc.
  • Quick Scan: swipe vertically to scan an edit, swipe horizontally to move to the next edition
  • Section Selector: select “Customize” to filter sections
  • Breaking News: ranked by Google News. Provides links to full content.
  • Saved Stories: you can mark a story with a star to read later
  • New Design
  • Widget

Google Currents 2.0 can be downloaded for free from Google Play and requires Froyo 2.2 or higher.
